For being a beta, it's not too bad. Except for "Aero Glass" and some other stuff, I can't see Vista being too hard on a average system built within the past year or so. Even as a beta, it runs really well on my Athlon XP 2600+ (OCed 2.3 GHz)/ 512 MB PC3200 DDR - even so, I'm upgrading later this year.

Vista starts to roll out
Vista Beta 1 in VPC will never be full evaluation. The emulated HW does not support the new Aero/Glass effects nor much of the GUI eye-candy, so unless you are installing this as a developer wanting first access to technology, you are completely missing out and should not bother with Vista Beta on VPC -- //David
